Profile

Dr Yvonne Ling graduated from the University of Singapore, and obtained the Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
 
She went on to fellowship training at Vancouver Eye Centre, and Children’s Hospital, University of British Columbia, Canada as well as at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California Los Angeles.
 
She practices general ophthalmology and subspecialises in Adult Strabismus & Paediatric Ophthalmology.   As the first clinical head of Strabismus & Paediatric Ophthalmology subspecialty in SNEC, she has been instrumental in setting up and establishing the various clinical services important in the subspecialty.  These include management of strabismus for adults and children, amblyopia, retinopathy of prematurity, botulinum injections for strabismus, myopia, retinoblastoma, genetic eye diseases and electrophysiology support. In addition to her subspecialty, she has particular interest in helping with vision rehabilitation of children and adults.  She has contributed in developing and directing the Seniors’ Eye Rehabilitation (SEER) programme in SNEC. 
 
Dr Ling also holds visiting consultant positions at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Singapore General Hospital and was appointed to sit on various committees in the Ministry of Health and Health Promotion Board. She is currently on the National Myopia Prevention Steering Committee, HPB and serves in a medical advisory panel for MOM.
 
Many doctors, ophthalmologists at home and abroad, medical students, orthoptists and affiliated staff have been trained by her. She is Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke – NUS Medical School and on the faculty for the SingHealth Residency programme.  For many years, she has been examiner for the M Med Ophth examinations, National University of Singapore, School of Postgraduate Medicine, and examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK.  
 
Dr Ling’s research includes work on Atropine for myopia control, refraction in children, retinopathy of prematurity, management of strabismus.  MyEyeGym, an eye exercise app developed together with her orthoptic team won prizes in SingHealth Innovation (GEM) and in the Singapore Infocom & Technology Federation Awards in 2014. 
 
Dr Ling received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Eye and Vision Health Awards in 2017 for her contributions to eye and vision health in institutions and public service, achievements in her field of expertise, and in education and training of succeeding generations of eye care professionals.
