When will I need a laboratory test?
Your doctor may order a laboratory test as part of your care journey. Laboratory tests usually involve collecting a small sample of your blood, urine, stool, tissue, or other bodily fluid. They help to confirm a diagnosis, monitor an existing condition, or check how well your body is responding to treatment.
Laboratory Test
You will be given a laboratory test appointment in addition to your doctor consultation appointment. You can track and reschedule both laboratory test and doctor’s consultation appointments any time via the Health Buddy app.
Before your laboratory test
What to Prepare Before My Laboratory Test?
Fasting Instructions - If your doctor has advised you to fast, please ensure you do so before your appointment for accuracy of results.
Bring along your laboratory order form - The laboratory order form would have been given to you during your previous visit to the hospital. Having this order form with you will help ensure a smoother experience on the day of your laboratory test. For patients on Video Consult or Telephone Consult, the form(s) will be emailed to you. If you have misplaced your copy, please obtain a reprint from the ordering clinic before you proceed to have your test done.
Avoid scheduling your laboratory test and any radiological scan appointments on the same day, as this may affect the accuracy of your blood test results.
On the day of your laboratory test
Register for your laboratory test at the location indicated in your appointment reminder via either SMS or push notification. Most laboratory test services are done at Specimen Collection @ SKH Medical Centre Building, Level 4. Specialised laboratory tests will be conducted at the respective clinics instead.
Please arrive on time for your appointment to minimise waiting time and ensure a smooth experience.

Additional tests
As part of your treatment, additional tests may sometimes be ordered by your doctor to help determine the underlying condition and ensure timely treatment. The need for additional tests will depend based on your medical condition. We will conduct only necessary tests that are required for your diagnosis.
Please note that in some cases, additional tests may be carried out before you are notified due to their time-sensitive nature and to avoid any delays that could affect your treatment. Final charges will depend on the number of laboratory tests required for your condition and applicable payment class.
You may reschedule via the Health Buddy app or by contacting our Call Centre at 6930 6000.
Please note that your laboratory test must be completed before your doctor consultation so that your results are ready for review by the doctor. If you are rescheduling your laboratory test through Health Buddy app, please ensure your doctor consultation appointment is also rescheduled accordingly.
We would encourage you to book an appointment in advance to minimise waiting time. If you do walk in, we recommend visiting between 3.00pm – 5.00pm when the Specimen Collection stations are generally less busy.
While most laboratory services are located at Specimen Collection, SKH Medical Centre, Level 4, certain specialised tests may be performed at other locations within SKH Medical Centre. Please proceed to the location stated in your appointment reminder. If you need help finding your way, please do not hesitate to approach our staff.
