What is Pazopanib for?

Pazopanib is a targeted medication used in the treatment of certain advanced cancers e.g. kidney, soft tissue.

How should I take or use Pazopanib?

It is a tablet, taken by mouth once daily and swallowed whole with water. Take the exact number of tablets instructed by your doctor.
Take on an empty stomach i.e. at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food.

What should I do if I forget to take or use Pazopanib?

If you miss a dose of Pazopanib, take it as soon as you can if it is within 12 hours of the missed dose. However, if more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and go back to your usual dosing time. Do not double dose.

What precautions should I take when taking or using Pazopanib?

  • Use effective birth control during treatment and for 2 weeks after stopping Pazopanib. Inform your doctor if you or your partner plan for or suspect pregnancy.
  • Do not take any medication and supplements without medical supervision.
  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any other medical conditions e.g. heart problems, high blood pressure, adrenal insufficiency, diabetes.

What food or medication should I avoid when I take or use Pazopanib?

  • Grapefruit and its juice.

Side Effects


What are some common side effects of Pazopanib?

  • Nausea, decreased appetite
  • Diarrhea and/or abdominal pain
  • Discoloration of skin and hair
  • Increased risk of bleeding or bruising
    Inform your doctor if you have any surgery planned.
  • High blood pressure
    Monitor your blood pressure closely.
  • Tiredness and lack of energy

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat, or chest pain
  • Sudden onset of cough or shortness of breath
  • Unusual swelling of hands or feet
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark tea-colored urine
  • Prolonged bleeding or bruising, poor healing wounds
  • Severe headache, unusual weakness, tiredness or light-headedness
  • Severe diarrhea or abdominal pain
  • Signs of infection – fever of 38°C or higher, chills, sore throat, pain or difficulty urinating
    To minimize infection risk, avoid crowds or being near people with injection.

Handling


How should I store Pazopanib?

  • Keep away from children
  • Keep in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight
  • Store at room temperature

How should I handle Pazopanib safely?

Do not break or crush the tablet.
