Dr Cao Taige, Consultant, Dermatology Service, SKH, shared a case study of his patient, Mr Wang, who developed genital warts—a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). While HPV spreads mainly through sexual contact, it can also be transmitted via skin contact. Dr Cao cautioned against using home remedies like toothpaste or ginger, which can be harmful, and stressed the need for proper medical treatment such as cryotherapy or topical medication. He also highlighted the importance of prevention through safe sex and HPV vaccination, noting that the 9-valent vaccine is effective for both men and women aged 9 to 45. Though generally benign, genital warts require early diagnosis and treatment to protect both physical and mental well-being.
