Storage/Transport

• Specimen should reach the Microbiology Laboratory as soon as possible.
• If unable to dispatch within the same day, specimens should be kept at 2 to 8°C.

Methodology

For Diagnosis of C. difficile infection:

Rapid Membrane Enzyme Immunoassay (C. Diff QuikChek Complete) for detection of:
• Glutamate Dehydrogenase (GDH)
• Toxins A + B

A reflex PCR test (Cepheid Xpert C. difficile/epi) will be performed when sample is positive for GDH but negative for toxins A + B (separately charged).
