Clinical Measurement Centre (CMC)

The Clinical Measurement Centre (CMC) at Sengkang General Hospital conducts diagnostic tests to assess brain, lung, heart, vascular, nerve and muscle functions with the help of specialised equipment and devices to diagnose neurological, pulmonary, cardiac, vascular, and sleep disorders. These tests support doctors in their diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions and are an integral part of the treatment process.

What exactly is a diagnostic test?

In simple terms, a diagnostic test is a procedure that determines whether or not an individual has a disease or a certain medical condition. This is usually carried out following other medical test results or the report of certain symptoms. Diagnostic tests (also called diagnostic procedures) come in many forms and can include biopsies, colonoscopies, CT scans, eye tests, gastroscopies, echocardiography, carotid ultrasounds, treadmill exercise tests, holter monitoring and neurodiagnostics.

If you’re looking for personalised medical and specialist care, look no further than Sengkang General Hospital. We provide diagnostics tests in a variety of specialties, including cardiac, pulmonary, neuro, vascular and sleep diagnostics. Each one of our diagnostic specialties has its own specialty clinic location which can be found under the heading ‘Specialist Centres’ below.

For diagnostics tests that are holistic and integrated with an efficient and educated treatment process, get in touch with SKH through our website or phone line (for all general enquiries) on +65 6930 5000 (24 hrs).

Specialist Centres

Cardiac Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 4)

Cardiac Diagnostics conducts a range of tests to help diagnose heart conditions like coronary heart disease and cardiomyopathy. One of the most common tests is an electrocardiogram (ECG) that records the heart's rhythm and activity. Here, patients can also get regular checks on their pacemaker, a small device placed in the chest to control abnormal heart rhythms.

Neurodiagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 5)

Neurodiagnostics conducts tests to measure the functions of the brain, nerves and muscles. Common tests include a nerve conduction study, an ultrasound of the head and neck arteries and an electroencephalogram (EEG) that measures brain activity. With the aid of electrical stimulations, electrodes and recording devices, these tests help diagnose problems related to transient ischemic attack, stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, and multiple sclerosis.

Pulmonary Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 4)

Pulmonary Diagnostics conducts a range of tests to measure how well the lungs take in and exhale air, along with its efficiency in transferring oxygen into the blood. A spirometry test is commonly done to diagnose Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a chronic condition that often affects smokers and the elderly. Other common conditions seen here include asthma, chronic cough or shortness of breath.

Vascular Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 4)

Vascular Diagnostics helps to conduct a comprehensive assessment of vascular diseases. 'Vascular' refers to the vessels that circulate blood throughout the body. Common scans include a duplex ultrasound of the lower limbs and the toe pressure test which is similar to a blood pressure test on the arm. The early detection of blood disorders like blood clots can help in preventing long-term complications.

Sleep Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 6)

Sleep Diagnostics conducts daytime and overnight tests to help diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep movement disorders and obstructive sleep apnea, where breathing is interrupted during sleep. A common test is a polysomnography, a sleep study which measures oxygen levels, body movements and brain waves to help determine the cause for disruptive sleep.

FAQs

Why are diagnostic tests important?

Diagnostic tests and procedures play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment process. Clinical Measurement Centres carry out diagnostic tests and screenings in order to prevent and identify diseases, diagnose disease or dysfunction at an early stage, and to determine how best to treat and monitor an illness or condition. When it comes to disease prevention, early disease diagnosis and effective treatment, high-quality diagnostic tests are crucial.

Where are each of SKH’s speciality diagnostic departments located?

SKH’s Clinical Measurement Centre and specialist diagnosis departments span multiple floors of SKH. These locations are: Cardiac Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 4), Neurodiagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 5), Pulmonary Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 4), Vascular Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 4), and Sleep Diagnostics (Medical Centre, Level 6).
