What to Expect During Your Stay

Patient Identification

For your safety, a patient identification wrist band, which contains your name, NRIC, date of birth and address, will be provided upon admission. The wristband comes with an attached electronic tag, which will enable quick transfer of location within the hospital's IT systems. Please wear it at all times during your stay in our hospital.

During your stay, you will be asked several times for your name, identification number and date of birth. This is for our staff to countercheck your identity for your own safety, so that treatment will be given to the right patient.

Team-based Care

During your stay, you will be looked after by a team of doctors. Depending on your medical condition, the doctor may refer you to other healthcare professionals such as dietitians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists to provide assessment and appropriate treatment to help you recover. Some of these treatments and services are chargeable and will be included in your bill. You may wish to clarify your concerns, if any, with the healthcare professional taking care of you.

Daily Ward Routine

The standard daily routine in the ward comprises ward rounds by doctors, medication, meals, visiting hours and bedtime. This routine may vary if patients are required to undergo laboratory tests, x-ray, or other clinical procedures.

Managing Pain

Should you feel pain during your stay with us, inform our staff immediately.

Medication Safety

You are recommended to bring the medication you are consuming to the hospital.

Preventing Falls

While we take all precautions as necessary during your stay with us, there are steps you and your visitors can take to prevent falls.

Caregiver Training

We provide training for caregivers, including relatives and domestic helpers. If a patient needs assistance with bathing, feeding, changing positions in bed, transferring from bed to chair or vice versa, the ward nurse-in-charge will identify a caregiver for training to be provided.

Your Personal Belongings

Valuables Kept by You

Please inform our nurses if you are retaining the use of valuables such as spectacles, dentures, hearing aids and mobile phones. To prevent loss or damage to these valuables, you are advised not to leave these items unattended/unprotected on meal trays, beds, bedside lockers, shower rooms, and any places where they may be lost or accidentally thrown out.

Valuables Kept by SKH

If required, our nurses will safe-keep your items in a sealed and secured envelope during your stay with us. A form will be signed by you, the nurse who secures the valuables, and another nurse who will act as a witness. The valuables will be returned to you upon your discharge and/or request by your next-of-kin (NOK).

Leaving the Ward

If you wish to leave the ward for any reason, please inform the staff on duty at all times so that they can take note of your whereabouts and ensure that you do not miss your medication or scheduled tests.

Leaving the Hospital Premises

As your safety and well-being is our utmost concern, please remain in the hospital premises till you are discharged by your doctor. If you wish to leave the ward for any reason, please inform the nurse-in-charge. Patients who request to be discharged against the doctors' advice will be required to sign an AOR (At Own Risk) form.

Smoking Prohibition

Under the law, smoking is prohibited within the hospital premises. Please be considerate to other patients.
