Profile

Clinical Assistant Professor Kok Yee Onn is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon. He graduated from NUS with the top Outstanding Undergraduate Research Prize (OURP) and Singapore Young Investigator Award (SYIA). He graduated from SingHealth Plastic Surgery with the National Outstanding Clinician Scientist Resident Award and the SingHealth Outstanding Resident Award. He spent time in Germany, South Korea, Thailand and USA at Stanford (Prof James Chang) and Pittsburgh (Prof J. Peter Rubin); for craniofacial surgery, facial and breast aesthetic surgery, body contouring, fat grafting and scars.

He was awarded several competitive scholarships - the Ministry of Health’s Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Team Scholarship for Body Contouring Surgery (at UPMC’s Life After Weight Loss Program in USA), the AOCMF fellowship for craniomaxillofacial surgery (Germany) and the MOH Healthcare Research Scholarship for Postgraduate Masters in Clinical Investigation. He has co-authored book chapters and guest reviewed for Archives of Plastic Surgery. He is involved in research, education and treatment for aesthetic surgery, reconstruction, microsurgery, lymphedema and burns.

His practice interests include cosmetic surgery, lasers, scars, breast reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, body contouring and its multidisciplinary care (SWITCH team), lower limb reconstruction, lymphedema, microsurgery, medical device innovation and volunteer missions. He believes in holistic individualised treatment plans with evidence-based cutting-edge techniques, a keen eye and a heart for service; to achieve the best form and function possible for patients.

Dr Kok holds several research grants with his co-Investigators and developed proprietary porcine models for burns, flaps, an epidermal collagen substitute, keloid ear clamp and a liver transplant microsurgical instrument.  His research interests centre around cosmeceuticals, medical devices and innovation in burns, lymphedema, wounds, scars; skin regeneration, substitutes, stem cells for rejuvenation, 3D printing and flap monitoring. He was instrumental in the pioneer Singapore teams that spearheaded animal vascularised composite allograft (VCA) transplantation and remote NIRS (Near Infrared Spectrometry) flap monitoring.

He is active in the education of residents, nurses, medical students and contributes to microsurgery and basic surgical skills courses. He is passionate about lifelong volunteer mission work and participated in cleft surgery missions to China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Cambodia under Operation Smile, Smile Asia and SingHealth.

He deeply believes in patient care, mentorship, multidisciplinary collaboration and value-driven care to improve patient outcomes. Without encouraging patients, supportive mentors, friends, colleagues and loving family–the aforementioned would not be possible.
