Prior to your hospital admission, you will be given information about how to prepare and what to expect before and after your procedure. Our staff will let you know about your appointment date as well as relevant information and support you may require on your procedure. They will also be able to share with you about the estimated cost of your bill, payment methods, as well as financial counselling. You are welcome to ask any questions or clarify any uncertainties.
When you are admitted to the hospital, we hope to get you settled and feel comfortable as quickly as possible. Except for emergency cases, patients are admitted to Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) based on a recommendation by a medical specialist at SKH Medical Centre. Once a date for admission is confirmed, patients will be advised on the following:
On arrival, you are requested to visit the Admissions counter located at Level 2 of Sengkang General Hospital. Our admission team will assist you to complete your paperwork and check that your details are correct.
Elective admission entails day surgery/same-day admission/ short-stay ward
Day of surgery admission means that you are admitted to hospital and have the surgery on the same day, but you stay in the hospital after the operation, at least overnight. In all of these cases, the nurses will let you know the arrangements for your admission.
Inpatients who are scheduled for surgery are requested to report at the Admissions Office at Level 1.
When you arrive at the ward, our ward staff will orientate you to the ward and the facilities available. A ward nurse will visit you to take your detailed medical history and carry out any necessary tests.
During your stay at the Hospital, you will be attended to by a team of doctors comprising medical specialists, medical officers and house officers.
Your medical records and information on your medical condition are confidential. We will only share this information with you and your next-of-kin. Should your immediate family members wish to know more about your condition, they can approach the Nurse Case Coordinator to arrange for a convenient time to meet the doctor. As it is not possible for our doctor to update all your family members who may visit you at different times, we request that you appoint one member to liaise with the doctor.
When you’re well enough to go home, your doctor will inform you and share some follow-up information, this may include:
Any equipment or aids you require at home
