FAQs

What qualifies as chronic pain?

Chronic pain is usually definted as pain lasting for more than 3 months or longer than the expected recovery period. Often this pain is debilitating, persistent and remains present despite medication or treatment. There are many types of chronic pain which include nerve pain, pain from bones, muscles and joints, back pain, and cancer pain. If you’re experiencing chronic pain, we recommend visiting a pain management clinic if you haven’t done so.

How to manage chronic pain naturally?

While chronic pain is a complex issue, there are steps you can take to manage your pain. We encourage self-management of pain especially after the underlying causes of pain have been treated or managed adequately.

You might consider:

  • Learning deep breathing and meditation
  • Doing exercise without high impact
  • Pacing yourself
  • Eating a balanced diet
  • Practising good sleeping habits

However, if the pain persists and it is affecting your function or quality of life, please seek help from a pain management specialist.

What happens if chronic pain is left untreated?

When left untreated, chronic pain - no matter the origin - can become more complex, leading to complications and long-term consequences that involve structural and functional alterations. It can also be detrimental to an individual’s mind and life, causing emotional impacts like anxiety and depression impacting on his/her quality of life. Hence, seeking proper treatment is essential.
