Profile

​Dr Rebecca Heywood has worked in Singapore as a Consultant Otolaryngologist and Otologist, Hearing Implant and Skull Base Surgeon since 2015. She graduated from the University of Manchester, UK in 1998 and did her postgraduate surgical training in London. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery in 2012. She completed her fellowship training in Otology and Skull Base Surgery at the Ear Science Institute Australia and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, Western Australia in 2015.

Dr Heywood has previously been involved in stem cell research at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research in Manchester, UK and has published and presented clinical research in all areas of ENT. She is passionate about helping those with ear and hearing disorders by combining her clinical work with research. In 2016 she was awarded grant funding to investigate hearing loss and cognition in the ageing population in Singapore, in collaboration with researchers from a number of institutions in Singapore and Australia. She is also involved in clinical research in the area of cochlear implantation and other auditory implants. Actively involved in clinical education, Dr Heywood teaches medical students and has regular faculty positions on otology and skull base surgery courses both locally and internationally. She currently holds appointments as Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Ear Sciences Centre, The University of Western Australia, and the Ear Science Institute Australia.
