Dr Hamid Razak is a Consultant and an ex-Chief Resident in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Singapore Health Services (SingHealth). Dr Hamid Razak is also a Clinical Associate Professor with Duke-NUS Medical School under the auspices of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Musculoskeletal Sciences Academic Clinical Programme. He is currently practicing at Sengkang General Hospital and is the Director for the Sports & Joint Preserving Osteotomy Services at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He graduated with a Bachelor in Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2009. During his first two postgraduate years in Singapore General Hospital, he won the “SingHealth Outstanding House Officer Award” as well as the “SingHealth Outstanding Medical Officer Award”. Having disrupted from National Service to read medicine, Hamid was re-enlisted in 2010. He performed exceedingly well in the Medical Officer Cadet Course and was awarded the prestigious Sword of Merit. He was later appointed as the Officer Commanding of the Medical Response Force, a position usually helmed by regular serviceman. Dr Hamid subsequently was selected for further specialist training in the competitive specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery. He continued his specialty training after completing his National Service commitment.
Dr Hamid has won several awards while in training. He was awarded the “SingHealth Outstanding Resident Award” in 2014 for his exemplary work as a trainee. He was also awarded the “SingHealth Outstanding Educator Award” in 2015 and the “Singapore General Hospital Junior Doctor Teaching Award” in 2015 and 2016 for his dedication and commitment to teaching medical undergraduates. In his final year in residency, he won the "SingHealth Outstanding Resident Award", the "SingHealth Outstanding Educator Award" and the "SingHealth Outstanding Quality Improvement Project Award". He was also selected as one of the outstanding chief residents in SingHealth and graduated as the valedictorian in his year.
Dr Hamid takes a keen interest in clinical research too having already published over 90 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. He completed an overseas research attachment pursuing translational research in biological treatment of early primary osteoarthritis at Imperial College London under the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship from July 2019 to March 2020. He is also a Lee Kuan Yew Postgraduate Scholar and is pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.
Dr Hamid also completed a fellowship with the internationally renowned joint preservation surgeon, Prof Adrian Wilson at the London Knee Osteotomy Centre, United Kingdom from July 2019 to March 2020. Under the tutelage of Prof Adrian Wilson, Dr Hamid furthered his surgical skills in joint preservation procedures such as complex osteotomies as well as multiligament surgery of the knee. Having returned to Singapore after an enriching time in the United Kingdom, Dr Hamid is committed to pushing the frontiers in joint preserving surgery, especially in young patients with arthritis. He is active in research and innovation surrounding joint preservation and is committed to translating his findings to optimize patient outcomes. At the time of writing, Dr Hamid has secured close to S$1M of grant funding for his research.
Most recently, Dr Hamid was awarded the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow College Travelling Fellowship to visit the world renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, United Kingdom. Through this fellowship, Dr Hamid has been trained in the utilization of the Oxford Partial Knee implant. The Oxford Partial Knee implant has one of the best survivorships. Dr Hamid is able of offer this to suitable patients.
