Budesonide - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Budesonide cause?

  • Increased risk of infection
  • Poor control of blood glucose
  • Osteoporosis with long term use
  • Cataracts or glaucoma with long term use
  • Others: headache, respiratory infection, dizziness, fatigue

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Sign of an allergic reaction e.g. rash, itching, swollen, trouble breathing.
  • Signs of high blood sugar e.g. confusion, feeling sleepy, flushing or fruity breath
  • Signs of high blood pressure e.g. bad headache or dizziness, eyesight changes
  • Signs of bleeding
  • Signs of infection e.g. fever, chills, bad sore throat, pain on passing urine
  • Signs of hypercorticism e.g. acne, stretch marks on the skin, swollen ankles
  • Signs of adrenal suppression e.g. severe ir prolonged fatigue, weakness, nausea

Before taking Budesonide , what precautions must I follow?

​Tell your doctor or pharmacist the medicines you are taking including vitamins and supplements.

Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions that you have. 

What food or medicine must I avoid when I take Budesonide ?

​Avoid grapefruit juice with budesonide.
