Vinblastine is a chemotherapy drug used to treat certain types of cancer.

What side effects can Vinblastine cause?

Early side effects

  • Mild nausea, vomiting or appetite loss may occur
    There are medications available, which may decrease these side effects. If you are given these medications, take them as directed.
  • Pain or skin damage similar to a burn may happen if the drug leaks outside the vein

Delayed side effects

  • Fatigue or muscle pain may be experienced
  • A drop in the blood counts may occur within a few days after treatment
  • Temporary hair loss may occur
  • Mouth ulcers may occur within several days of treatment
  • Mild constipation with abdominal cramping may occur
  • Tingling or numbness in fingers and toes may occur after several treatments

Please seek medical attention if any of the following occurs:

  • Fever of 38°C or higher
  • Redness, swelling, pain or burning sensation at the injection site
  • Severe constipation not relieved by the use of laxatives
  • Dizziness that persists for more than 3 days
  • Double vision
