Lapatinib - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Lapatinib cause?

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Palms of the hands or soles of the feet may become numb, sore, red or dry
    Especially if Lapatinib is taken together with Capecitabine.
  • Rash, dry skin, itch
  • Tiredness and lack of energy

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Fever of 38°C or higher
  • Sores or ulcers in mouth and throat
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising or black tarry stools
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Chest pain, cough or shortness of breath
  • Unusual water retention or swelling of the hands or feet
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes or dark tea-coloured urine
  • Side effects become severe

Before taking Lapatinib , what precautions must I follow?

  • Use effective birth control during treatment with Lapatinib. Inform your doctor if you suspect pregnancy.
  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medication or supplements.

What food or medicine must I avoid when I take Lapatinib ?

Avoid taking grapefruit or its juice while you are on Lapatinib.​
